Debate Classes. Beginner's and Intermediate level.

In-Person Mtn House

For grades 6 to 12 (with no experience) or one semester of experience. Offered at the MTN House location, 1.5 Hours a week, 14-week program. Extra practice hours are included in this program.

The class will focus on the thoughtful and logical construction of arguments, understanding the order and structure of a debate, learning rebuttals, speech strategies, cross-examination, and building confidence in delivering speeches. Various debate and Impromptu drills are introduced, 1:1 mock practice, and flowing. Intermediate students will also learn to master rebuttals through flowing, rigorous research, strategic argumentation (diversifying attacks, prioritizing offense), signposting, fluency, line-by-line refutation, and advanced philosophy/framework debate.

A minimum of 6 students' enrollment is required (online or in-person), with a maximum of 11 students per class. The tournament fee is additional. No classes during Spring break. Please select one option from the options shown below. The costs for the 14-week and 16-week plans differ.  The 16-week program is created for students who want to participate in the California State Middle School Championship in mid-May 2026. If your child is a high schooler or a middle schooler who will not participate the middle school championship, select the 14-week program. Lincoln-Douglas Debate (LD) is a one-on-one debate format in which students argue a topic voted on by the membership. It focuses on philosophical and ethical questions, exploring values like justice, fairness, and morality through a framework of competing ideas rather than policy. Even we exceed practice hours, we do not charge for additional cost.
