Grades 6–12
In-person Public Speaking Camp
In-person, Public Speaking Camp
Grades 6 to 12.
Goal: The objective of the Public Speaking course is to begin mastery of delivery, confidence, and communication over a 2-week period.
Description: The Course will focus on key aspects of public speaking. Each week will allow students to participate and learn in a variety of ways: a brief lecture delivered by the coach, past videos and performances to analyze effective techniques, speaking activities, class presentations, and a short homework assignment to help maintain new skills and practice research/writing outside of class time. Each lesson will focus on a specific aspect of public speaking, including inflection, body language, memorization, and audience engagement. By the end of the 2 weeks, students will be able to deliver either an Impromptu speech or pre-written speech from memory (Oratory or Informative), utilizing what they have learned and building emotional, powerful delivery. Students will participate in other impromptu speaking activities each day to gradually build confidence. Their confidence and presentation skills will be a benefit throughout future endeavors, including but not limited to education, careers, and extracurricular activities.
