Online Debate Classes
Online Debate Classes, Grades 6 -12. Beginner's and Intermediate level (Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum)
No experience or one semester of experience.
Discourse Power’s PF (Public Forum) Debate course is an outcome-driven program designed for talented students. Rather than teaching skills in isolation, this course will systematically train students to think like competitive debaters, integrating research, strategy, and persuasive communication around a single national-level topic. Students will receive intensive instruction on evidence quality, impact comparison, judge adaptation, and round-level decision-making, with frequent 1-on-1 coaching. Beyond competitive success, students will walk away with the skills needed for advanced academics, selective college admissions, and leadership in high-impact fields. The 16-week program is created for students who want to participate in the California State Middle School Championship in mid-May 2026.
Lincoln-Douglas Debate (LD) is a one-on-one debate format in which students argue a topic voted on by the membership. It focuses on philosophical and ethical questions, exploring values like justice, fairness, and morality through a framework of competing ideas rather than policy. Public Forum Debate (PF) is a two-on-two debate format that focuses on current events. Resolutions change frequently throughout the season. Topic analysis, research, finding good evidence, case making, tournament tips, judge adaption, crossfire, rebuttals, flow, final focus/strategies, salvage the round, weighing, and summary are some of the topics covered in the Public Forum debate. A minimum of 5 students' enrollment is required, with a maximum of 8 students per class. The tournament fee is additional. No classes during the spring break.
